Some Ghanaians living in Niger have expressed their desire for Ghana to join the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), citing the need for African unity and sovereignty.

During President John Mahama’s visit to Niamey, a Ghanaian resident, Oumar Adam, shared his excitement about the visit and his hope that Ghana would become part of the AES.
“Today we are happy, very, very happy because our president is arriving here. Regarding the AES, we hope that we too will join it to support Africa. And Africa will stand tall,” he stated.
The call for greater African integration has been echoed by advocates of regional sovereignty, who emphasize that the AES represents a new era of self-determination and strong governance for the continent.
Dr. Benjamin Anyagre Aziginaateeg, CEO of the AfriKan Continental Union Consult (ACUC), emphasized the importance of the Sahel bloc in shaping Africa’s future.
“Anchoring, building, and growing the Sahel Confederate people’s sovereign project is a step towards establishing a purposeful Continental Union Government for Africa and its citizens across the Afro-descendant territories,” he stated.
He further stressed that the vulnerable nominally independent states in Africa would be fortified and safeguarded within the Sahel framework, describing it as the “Nkrumah/Sankara/Keita/Lumumba nucleus of the New AfriKan Nation-State.”
The growing influence of the AES, which includes Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger, has sparked discussions about the future of African regional integration. Supporters believe the bloc serves as a foundation for a new political and economic order that prioritizes Africa’s interests over external influences.
With increasing calls for Ghana’s participation in AES, the conversation on regional alliances and governance in Africa continues to evolve.
