The Ghana Water Ltd (GWL), has inaugurated a five-member Audit Committee to enhance financial oversight, strengthen internal controls, and ensure compliance in line with the Public Financial Management (PFM) Act, 2016 (Act 921).

The committee is chaired by Hon. Gladys Gillian Naadu Tetteh, governance and public financial management expert.

The committee members’ core mandate includes overseeing the implementation of audit recommendations, monitoring financial reporting processes, and advising management on risk.

Speaking at the inauguration, GWL Managing Director, Mr. Adam Mutawakilu, underscored the committee’s critical role in promoting transparency and accountability, in line with President John Mahama’s vision for ethical governance.

“The President’s renewed emphasis on transparency and accountability sets a clear tone for all public institutions. At Ghana Water Ltd, we are committed to aligning with this national vision by strengthening our internal control systems and ensuring our operations meet the highest standards of integrity,” he stated.

Dr. Eric Oduro Osae, Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency (IAA), who administered the official induction, charged the committee to act as a proactive support system for management, ensuring early detection of financial risks.

“You are not whistleblowers but support structures to guide management to prevent issues before they arise,” Dr. Osae noted, emphasizing the need for timely audit reports and compliance with new government policies on State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs).

In her inaugural remarks, Chairperson Hon. Tetteh reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to upholding financial integrity at GWL.

“We will work together to enhance financial oversight and compliance. GWL has maintained a commendable financial record, and we intend to build on this legacy,” she stated.

The new Audit Committee is expected to collaborate closely with management and internal auditors to safeguard public funds and reinforce trust in GWL’s financial governance.
