President-

President John Dramani Mahama visited Kumasi’s Adum Central Business District to assess the aftermath of a fire outbreak that ravaged hundreds of shops.

The fire, which erupted in the early hours of Friday, March 21, left traders devastated as they struggled to recover their losses. Firefighters faced difficulties controlling the blaze due to blocked access routes and delayed response times.

Interacting with affected traders, Mahama expressed his sympathy and assured them of his support. He called for urgent relief measures and a thorough probe into the incident.

Speaking after fire officers briefed him on what happened, the president said “I have directed NADMO to assist affected traders that is in the interim, we will also discuss with the  Chief of staff together with the Ashanti Regional minister to also support the traders”.

He also advised traders to avoid cooking in the market, citing gas cylinder usage as a possible factor in the fire outbreak.

Some traders attributed the disaster to recent power outages, while others pointed to the highly flammable materials stored in the market.

Mahama’s visit was met with appreciation as he reaffirmed his commitment to assisting those impacted by the tragedy.
