The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has expressed frustration over the response of some firefighters during a fire outbreak at Adum Market in Kumasi on Friday, March 21, 2025.

During his visit, he confronted some personnel for allegedly standing idle despite a fire tender being on-site.
“If there is no water in the fire tender, move it away from here. What kind of behavior is this? If there is water in it, why are you standing idle as if I am a small boy you can deceive?” he fumed.
When an officer attempted to explain, the minister dismissed the response, insisting action was long overdue.
“The explanations are too much. Move the vehicle from here! I have been asking about the fire tender for the past hour, but you are not telling me the truth.”
The fire, which ravaged multiple shops in Kumasi’s Central Business District, spread rapidly due to flammable materials stored in the market. Firefighters faced difficulties accessing the area due to congestion.
Reports indicate that six fire tenders were deployed, but response efforts were hindered by narrow alleyways.
