The Minister for Communications, Samuel Nartey George, has ordered the termination of nearly 100 employees of Ghana Post Limited, citing irregularities in their recruitment process.

According to the minister, the affected staff were hired after the December 7, 2024, elections without adherence to proper procedures.

Speaking on the decision, Sam George emphasized his commitment to ensuring that only legitimately recruited personnel remain in the ministry and its agencies.

“If you are a minister and you take over a ministry that has 3,117 staff in the ministry and its agencies and 600 were recruited after December 7, you cannot expect me to come and inherit such a mess, and so the rationalisation is ongoing,” he told journalists on Tuesday.

He further stated, “Today, I have authorised a termination of a few more at Ghana Post, almost 100 that were done post-election.”

The minister explained that the flawed recruitment process led to inefficiencies within the institution, as some appointments did not follow due process.

As part of efforts to enhance efficiency, the Ningo-Prampram MP reiterated his commitment to restructuring the ministry. “I am on a mission to clean up the ministry to make sure that it is lean and efficient and carries out its work,” he stressed.

The government has been reviewing and reversing several public sector appointments made after the election, arguing that they did not follow the proper recruitment protocols.
