Former CEO of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), Solomon Asamoah, has strongly denied allegations by Attorney-General Dr. Dominic Ayine that he has gone into hiding in Senegal to evade investigations.

In a statement issued on Monday, March 24, 2025, Asamoah described the claim as “entirely inaccurate and untrue,” clarifying that his recent travel was for scheduled board meetings and not an attempt to avoid justice.
” Firstly. I categorically deny the false and incorrect allegations that I have gone into hiding in Senegal. This claim is entirely inaccurate and untrue,” he stated.
According to him, he left Ghana on Friday, March 21, 2025, for a previously arranged business engagement and was never contacted by any government official regarding an investigation before his departure.
However, he confirmed receiving a message from an official of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) on March 22, a day after leaving Accra, requesting an online meeting.
“However, on Saturday, 22nd March 2025, a day after departure from Accra, I was indeed contacted via WhatsApp by an official of the National Intelligence Bureau who requested an online meeting with m,e which we agreed to hold on Wednesday 26th March at 4 pm. This would enable me to respond to any misconceptions and misunderstandings on any substantive matter related to investments by GIlF,” he noted.
Asamoah emphasized his track record of integrity and accountability, stating that during his tenure at GIIF, the institution consistently turned a profit, accumulating over GHS 2.5 billion in net earnings.
He further asserted that all funds were reinvested, growing GIIF from its original GHS 1.2 billion capital to GHS 5.2 billion by the end of 2023, making it “one of the best-performing infrastructure funds on the African continent.”
Reaffirming his commitment to cooperate with authorities, he stressed, “I have not committed any wrongdoing, and I absolutely have no reason to run away from justice. I will return home shortly to offer all the assistance and information necessary to support the AG’s investigations, which will ultimately vindicate my reputation and integrity.”
Meanwhile, investigation into the $2 million payment and the failed Accra Skytrain project is ongoing, and Dr Ayine has indicated that prosecution could proceed even if Mr Asamoah remains abroad, with the possibility of him being tried in absentia.
