The leadership of the BlueLight Traders Association (BTLA) has issued an apology to the Interior Minister and Member of Parliament for Asawase, Alhaji Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, following the rejection of his rice donation by some traders.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, March 26, when the Minister visited the fire-ravaged Adum market to extend support to affected traders, particularly mothers and children who lost their livelihoods.

However, some traders jeered at him and refused to accept the donated rice, demanding alternative forms of assistance instead.

In a statement signed by its interim executives, BTLA condemned the actions of those involved, describing the rejection as unfortunate and a result of misunderstanding and miscommunication.

“We sincerely apologize to Hon. Muntaka for this regrettable occurrence, believing strongly that this action was a result of misunderstanding and miscommunication among some members,” the statement read.

The Association emphasized that the behavior of a few individuals did not reflect the views or values of the entire trader community.

“In distressing times like these, frustrations and emotions can run high, sometimes leading to unintended expressions of displeasure. However, such conduct does not represent the values or intentions of the Association as a whole,” the statement added.

They expressed gratitude for the Minister’s support and commitment to helping traders recover from the devastating fire. They also appealed for the return of the donated food supplies to ensure proper distribution among those in need.

“We earnestly hope that Hon. Muntaka will graciously accept our apology and continue collaborating with us in the spirit of goodwill, unity, and mutual respect,” the statement concluded.

The Association further urged affected traders to remain calm and cooperate with authorities as efforts to rebuild the trading area continue.
