Surveying plays a crucial role in Ghana’s development, influencing land use planning, urban growth, and environmental sustainability. With rapid urbanization and the increasing need for efficient spatial planning, licensed surveyors are at the forefront of shaping the nation’s built environment. Recognizing this, the Licensed Surveyors Association of Ghana (LiSAG) held its Annual General Meeting and Seminar under the theme: “Leveraging Base Maps for Urban Transformation and Economic Growth: The Licensed Surveyors’ Role.”

In his address, the President of LiSAG, Surv. Ing. Samuel Larbi Darko emphasized the association’s commitment to innovation, collaboration, and sustainable development. He highlighted key achievements, including a constitutional review, relocation to a new secretariat, and strategic partnerships with reputable organizations. He urged surveyors to adopt modern technologies and innovative approaches to enhance their contributions to national development.
Okpleme Nuer Annorbaa Sasraku II, Paramount Chief of Yilo Krobo and President of the Yilo Krobo Traditional Council, echoed these sentiments, stressing the urgency of addressing regional and district boundary disputes. He pointed to the challenges these issues pose and called for the implementation of recommendations from the 2021 technical report on district boundary challenges, which builds on the 2012 District Peace Report.
The Paramount Chief urged LiSAG members to embrace innovative solutions, foster collaboration, and promote sustainability in their work. He expressed confidence in the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs’ commitment to supporting this initiative, believing that a collective effort could transform Ghana’s communities and enhance economic growth.
Representing the ministry, Dr. Yeboah underscored the importance of mapping disaster-prone areas, particularly flood zones and high-risk regions. He highlighted the critical role licensed surveyors play in land use planning, urban development, and environmental assessment, encouraging them to explore economic opportunities through advanced mapping technologies.
As Ghana continues to evolve, licensed surveyors remain instrumental in shaping its future. Through continued innovation, strategic partnerships, and a commitment to sustainable development, LiSAG members are poised to drive urban transformation, making Ghana’s cities more livable, resilient, and economically robust.
