The Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, has strongly condemned the reported shooting incident of some youth in Bawku by police personnel.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, 9, 2025, the MP expressed outrage over the incident, stressing that such actions by security forces should not be tolerated.

“I totally condemn the actions of the police in shooting some youth in Bawku today,” he stated.

Mr. Ayariga also distanced himself from any decisions made by law enforcement authorities, clarifying that he has no control over police operations.

“I have never had any discussion with any police and directed them to allow anyone to attend any market or purchase anything from anyone. Such matters are not my responsibility,” he said.

He added that decisions on security and enforcement lie strictly within the mandate of the Ghana Police Service and should not be attributed to him or any other political figure.

The lawmaker called on security agencies to collaborate closely with the Zugran and overlord of Kusaug, Abugrago Azoka II, to restore and maintain peace in the area.

“I urge law enforcement officers to work hand-in-hand with the traditional leadership to ensure law and order is upheld in Bawku,” Ayariga added.
