The Union of Professional Nurses and Midwives, Ghana (UPNMG), is demanding swift justice following the tragic death of a young nurse, Mr. Richard Antwi Agyei, who reportedly lost his life after an alleged incident of police brutality at Yamfo Health Center on Friday, April 4, 2025.

In a statement issued by the Brong Ahafo Regional branch of the union, Nurse Agyei was a dedicated health worker who succumbed to injuries believed to have been inflicted by officers from the Duayaw Nkwanta Police Division in the Tano North Municipality of the Ahafo Region.
“This devastating incident has not only robbed us of a committed caregiver but has also shaken the very foundation of safety and respect that every healthcare worker deserves,” the union said.
UPNMG expressed their disappointment in the conduct of the officers involved, stressing that the union strongly condemned this unwarranted act of violence and called for an immediate and thorough investigation into the circumstances.
“We strongly condemn this unwarranted act of violence and call for an immediate and thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragedy. Justice must be served, and those responsible must be held accountable to ensure such incidents are never repeated.”
The union also extended its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased, noting that the loss is deeply felt by colleagues, patients, and the entire healthcare fraternity.
“We stand in solidarity with healthcare workers, especially nurses, midwives, and staff of the Yamfo Health Center, who continue to serve under challenging conditions,” the statement continued. “We pledge our support to advocate for their safety and well-being.”
In a moving gesture of unity, the UPNMG also thanked the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) for joining in a solidarity visit to the Yamfo facility.
As investigations are awaited, the union is urging all members to remain calm. “The union will leave no stone unturned to ensure that justice is served for our dear colleague,” the leadership assured.
