The Ghana Police Service has arrested a man captured in a viral video assaulting a young man with a machete beside a fuel tanker.
The incident, which sparked outrage on social media, occurred on Friday, April 4, 2025, at Anyinam in the Eastern Region.
According to a police statement, the suspect, identified as Dawuda Sumaila, a tanker driver’s mate, was arrested on April 9, 2025, through an intelligence-led operation.
“The suspect, Dawuda Sumaila, who is a tanker driver’s mate is currently in police custody assisting investigations into the incident,” the statement confirmed.
The disturbing footage showed Sumaila striking the victim multiple times with a machete in broad daylight, prompting widespread condemnation from the public and calls for swift justice.
