
The Western Central Police Command has arrested 22 individuals on April 8, 2025, for engaging in unauthorized illegal mining activities also known as galamsey in Dominase Nkwanta, Adjakaa Manso, and surrounding areas.

In a press statement, the twenty-two suspects, were arrested during coordinated raids targeting illicit mining operations.
”The twenty two suspects are; Albert Adu Bonsra, Stephen Kwakye, Richard Atigah , Yaw Menanyi, Al-Mustapha Alidu, Jutu Francis, Hakitu Zibo, Nana Yaw Boakye, Kwesi Evans, Isaac Cobby, Bashiru Ali, Atta Francis, Ayew Sali, Fataw Gariba, Kwame Emmanuel, Kwesi Francis, Abapor Frank, Wasah Moses, Bukari Haruna, Abdulai Lukman, Yeboah Rashid, and Alkainu Hassan”.
Authorities seized equipment such as 11 pumping machines, seven shovels, a pickaxe, and two chamfan machines from the sites.
All detainees are currently in police custody and are being processed to face legal proceedings.
This crackdown underscores the government’s commitment to combating illegal mining, which has severely impacted Ghana’s environment and water resources.
