‘Advocates for African unity push for a self-sufficient economic and political bloc’ - Dr. Aziginaateeg

Dr. Benjamin Anyagre Aziginaateeg, CEO of the AfriKan Continental Union Consult (ACUC), has called on African leaders to unite and advocate for a unified Africa and comprehensive governance reforms.

Delivering his address at the 2025 UNISA Conference in Pretoria, Dr. Aziginaateeg emphasized the urgency of reclaiming Africa’s sovereignty through Afrocentric leadership and structural changes.

“Africa may no longer face invading armies, but she remains besieged by systems of exploitation, by economic fragmentation, and by psychological subjugation,” he stated.

He called for the establishment of a continental federation, asserting that Africa is not 54 fragmented states; we are one people, a constellation bound by blood, struggle, and destiny.

“Africa is not 54 fragmented states—we are One People—a constellation bound by blood, struggle, and destiny. From the Saharawi dunes to Kenya’s savannahs, from Lagos’s markets to Gauteng’s mines, our diversity is our strength. But strength without unity is like a sword without a hilt.”

Agenda 2063 envisions a continental federation, a United States of Africa. Grand visions demand granular action. The time for deliberation has passed. We must act.

Dr. Aziginaateeg further proposed several reforms, including integrating traditional governance systems, promoting industrialization, and implementing people-centered constitutional constructs.

He urged African leaders to transition from rhetoric to actionable strategies, emphasizing the need for unity and self-determination to achieve true independence and prosperity across the continent.

The conference, held at UNISA’s Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Hall, brought together distinguished guests, academics, and leaders to discuss the theme: “Democracy in Sub-Saharan Africa: Challenges and the Post-Apartheid Democratic Dispensation.”
