The Upper West Regional Police Command has arrested seven individuals for engaging in illegal mining activities along the Black Volta River at Chiantanga Community near Dorimon in the Wa West District.

The suspects, including two women, were apprehended on April 10, 2025.

They have been identified as Sabugu Razak, Ibrahim Zuberu, Alex Amedzake, John Cobblah, Promise Dufe, Angelina Akpese, and Rebecca Tumawu.

During the operation, authorities seized ten Changfang machines, two unregistered PNE and Apsonic tricycles, motorbikes with registration numbers M-24-NR 6010 and M-23-UW 4413, two unregistered Haojue and Apsonic motorbikes, and six student mattresses from the site.

The suspects are currently in custody assisting with investigations and will be put before the court.

The Regional Police Command has reiterated its commitment to cracking down on illegal mining activities in the region.
