The Eastern Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has placed a ban on the celebration of the WA YAA DORM, WA YAA KLOWEM festival, citing potential threats to public peace and safety in the Yilo Klo Traditional Area.

In a letter addressed to organizers of the festival, REGSEC disclosed that the planned celebration, scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 19, 2025, coincides with the annual grand durbar of the Plau Kani festival, celebrated by the chiefs and people of Plau in Somanya.

Authorities say the overlapping events have stirred heightened tension, resentment, and a sense of insecurity in the area.

In response, the council, acting under the Security and Intelligence Agencies Act, 2020 (Act 1030), decided to prohibit the WA YAA DORM, WA YAA KLOWEM celebration on that day.

Authorities stress that the decision prioritizes public safety and the overall security of the Yilo Krobo Municipality. The council has urged organizers to comply with the directive in the interest of peace.

REGSEC has also directed the police to enforce law and order during the Plau Kani festival to ensure the safety of residents and attendees.
