A tragic fire broke out late Friday night near the Madina Redco flats, claiming the life of a young woman and destroying over 150 structures.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the blaze started at approximately 11:15 p.m. It quickly spread through a cluster of wooden and metal structures used for residential and commercial purposes. In total, about 140 wooden and 20 metal structures were consumed by the flames.

Firefighters from the Madina Fire Station responded swiftly at 11:17 p.m., with support from teams in Adenta, Legon, Abelemkpe, and the GNFS Headquarters. Despite arriving to find the fire at its fully developed stage, they managed to confine it by 12:02 a.m. and completely extinguish it by 2:22 a.m. on Saturday.

Tragically, a Nigerian woman believed to be in her early twenties, identified only as Beauty, lost her life in the incident. Her charred remains were handed over to the Madina Police for further investigation.

While the fire ravaged more than 150 structures and destroyed property worth thousands of cedis, firefighters were able to save over 200 nearby buildings, including the main Redco flats.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
