
Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has joined millions across the world in mourning the passing of Pope Francis, describing the late pontiff as a beacon of peace, humility, and inclusiveness.

In a Facebook post, Dr. Bawumia recalled his personal encounter with the Holy Father during a visit to the Vatican a year ago, which he described as deeply impactful.
“When I visited him a year ago, he left such a remarkable impression on me as one whose true essence and outlook on life was to live pure and right,” he wrote.
Dr. Bawumia praised Pope Francis for his unwavering dedication to unity and compassion, noting that the Pope’s life and ministry stood as an example of moral leadership and love for the marginalised.
“The late Pope was a man of unwavering peace and compassion. He lived a life of inclusiveness and humility, which was admired by many around the world,” the former Vice President stated.
Extending his condolences to the Roman Catholic Church and faithful across Ghana and the globe, Dr. Bawumia expressed the hope that Pope Francis’ enduring legacy would continue to guide humanity in its moral and spiritual pursuits.
“May his legacy inspire us as we continue to pursue our individual mandates on earth,” he added.
Pope Francis passed away at the age of 88, after a decade-long papacy marked by progressive reforms and a strong advocacy for the poor and oppressed.
