In the early hours of Friday, April 18, 2025, police officers stationed at the Tadzewu-Mitsrikasa barrier in the Volta Region intercepted a significant cache of ammunition during a routine stop-and-search operation.

The officers, acting on standard checks, halted a Hyundai bus with registration number GR 8246-Q, which was en route from Accra to neighbouring Benin.
A thorough inspection of the vehicle led to the discovery of 60 cartons of AAA cartridges, amounting to 15,000 rounds, and 72 cartons of BB cartridges, totalling 18,000 rounds.
The ammunition had been carefully concealed in sacks beneath passengers’ luggage, raising immediate suspicion.
The bus driver, 45-year-old Abasou Fousseni, and his co-driver, 38-year-old Salisu Jalilu, were both arrested for questioning.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the co-driver was likely responsible for loading the ammunition into the vehicle.
While the driver was later released on police enquiry bail to continue the journey with the passengers, the co-driver remains in custody and is expected to appear in court on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
This operation underscores the Ghana Police Service’s heightened vigilance and continued efforts to curb the spread of transnational crime in the sub-region.
