NSA-MILITARY-1140x570

Starting August 3, 2025, all National Service Personnel (NSPs) in Ghana will undergo basic military training as part of a new initiative by the National Service Authority (NSA) to promote discipline, nationalism, and physical fitness among young graduates.

Dubbed the National Service Emergency Response Readiness Programme (NSERRP), the initiative follows a high-level meeting between the NSA and the Military High Command on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.

The move aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s vision to shape a resilient and patriotic generation of Ghanaian youth, a policy direction he first outlined during his maiden State of the Nation Address to Parliament on February 27.

Addressing the meeting, NSA Director-General Felix Gyamfi stressed the strategic value of the programme:

“The introduction of this military training is a step in the right direction and must be embraced by all and sundry as one of the indicators for resetting the country, particularly the youth.”

Under the NSERRP, all NSPs will participate in up to two months of composite basic military drills and orientation as part of their national service duties.

Representing the Ghana Armed Forces, Brigadier General Amoah-Boakye reaffirmed the military’s commitment to the programme and assured the NSA of their full support in delivering the training nationwide.

The rollout marks a significant shift in the national service framework, combining civic duty with basic military preparedness to equip graduates for future national challenges.
