Tensions flared in the Binduri District of the Upper East Region on Thursday, April 24, 2025, after the President’s nominee for District Chief Executive (DCE) was overwhelmingly rejected by the Assembly.

Shortly after the vote of no confidence, Samuel Azure, the newly elected Presiding Member and Assemblyman for the Kaadi Electoral Area, was allegedly assaulted by unknown individuals.

Eyewitness accounts suggest the attack occurred within minutes of the nominee’s rejection, though the exact motive remains unclear. The incident has since sparked growing concerns over deepening political divisions in the area.

Details about the identities of the assailants and the full circumstances surrounding the assault are still sketchy, and local authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the matter.

Meanwhile, the Binduri District Assembly has not disclosed the immediate steps it will take following the failed confirmation, leaving residents anxious over the district’s leadership vacuum.
