Ghanaian actress-turned-politician, Ebi Bright, has officially been confirmed as the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly, making history as the first female mayor of the industrial city.

The former National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Tema Central secured her confirmation with 28 votes in favour and only 3 against, following her nomination by President John Dramani Mahama.
Though her appointment sparked mixed reactions among some residents, particularly due to her non-indigene status, Ebi Bright took her oath of office on Friday, May 9, pledging to serve with “purpose, service, and love.”
“I’m profoundly grateful to H.E John Dramani Mahama for the confidence he has reposed in me and all the gallant men and women who make up his cabinet and advisers. And to the Honourable Assembly members and government appointees, for your endorsement,” she stated at the ceremony, which was officiated by the Greater Accra Regional Minister.
Promising to align closely with the President’s 24-hour economy policy, she declared her mission to transform Tema into a resilient, inclusive, and economically vibrant urban hub.
“My vision is to transform Tema into a sustainable, inclusive, and dynamic urban hub where industrial revival is thriving 24-hour economy,” she affirmed.
