The Minority in Parliament has filed formal petitions with three key state investigative bodies, calling for independent probes into the recent controversy involving the Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, over the receipt of a dollar-denominated gift.

The petitions have been submitted to the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, and the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
This move comes in response to President John Dramani Mahama’s decision on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, to close the matter after accepting Gyamfi’s public apology.
The President stated that he had “accepted the apology” and considered the issue resolved, though he issued a stern warning to the official.
However, the Minority has disagreed with the President’s approach, arguing that the matter requires an independent investigation and cannot be swept aside with an apology alone.
According to them, the actions of the Ghana Gold Board CEO raise questions about adherence to public service ethics and anti-corruption laws, and the outcomes of these investigations should guide any further decisions on his role in public office.
The petition was spearheaded by Mumuni Mohammed Nurudeen, Member of Parliament for Nalerigu/Gambaga. He was joined by the Minority Whip, Habib Iddrisu, and the Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed.
The group insists that “the petitioned institutions must uncover the full facts of the dollar gift saga and determine whether Gyamfi’s actions contravened public service ethics, anti-corruption statutes, or administrative protocols.”
