A combined team of National Security operatives and Police officers has stormed the residence of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to execute a search warrant.

Wontumi, who serves as the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and is also the owner of Akonta Mines, is reportedly at the centre of an unannounced security operation that began in the early hours of Friday, May 24.
The motive behind the operation remains unclear.
However, eyewitnesses say the security team arrived unannounced and demanded access to the premises.
“The main entrance remains locked, and it is yet to be confirmed whether Chairman Wontumi is inside the house,” a source told this website.
Onlookers describe a tense scene, as uniformed officers and suspected National Security personnel persistently knocked and banged on the gate, drawing growing attention from residents and the media.
“Some members of the team, reportedly in plain clothes, appear to be from the National Security setup, though no official statement has been issued,” another witness added.
The incident has sparked widespread speculation due to Wontumi’s controversial profile, both as a senior political figure and as the head of Akonta Mines—a company previously accused of illegal mining activities.
As of the time of this report, there has been no arrest, and authorities have yet to confirm the legal grounds or objectives of the operation.
