The General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Ghana, Rev. Stephen Wengam, has hosted his Beninese counterpart, Rev. Ben Gousou Sonjie, in Accra as part of collaborative efforts toward the upcoming World Congress of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship.

The meeting, held in a spirit of fraternal unity and shared purpose, focused on preparations for the landmark event scheduled to take place in Accra from October 14 to 16, 2026. The congress, set to be held in Africa for the very first time, is expected to attract thousands of delegates from across the globe.

Rev. Sonjie, who also serves as Chairman of the West Africa Assemblies of God Alliance (WAAGA), emphasised the need for the sub-regional body to throw its full support behind Assemblies of God, Ghana, to ensure a successful hosting of the global gathering.

“The fact that Africa is hosting this congress for the first time is historic. It’s only right that we in West Africa rally behind Ghana Assemblies of God to make this a truly world-class event,” he noted.

The two church leaders also took the opportunity to explore further avenues for missions’ collaboration and strategies to strengthen church growth across West Africa.

As part of his visit, Rev. Sonjie and his delegation toured the proposed venues earmarked for the Congress. He expressed satisfaction with the progress of preparations and commended Rev. Wengam and his leadership team for their dedication and excellence.

“I am highly impressed by what I have seen. The commitment of the Ghana team is inspiring, and I have no doubt that the Congress will be an unforgettable experience,” Rev. Sonjie stated.

He further praised Assemblies of God, Ghana, for its spiritual vibrancy and leadership, describing the church as “a beacon of hope” for the entire Africa Assemblies of God Alliance.

The visit marks a significant milestone in the growing partnership between Ghana and Benin Assemblies of God churches, as they work hand-in-hand to make history in 2026.
