Some newly appointed staff of the Lands Commission have been left in limbo following a sudden suspension of their appointments just days after they were posted to various regions to assume duty.

According to information gathered by OnlineTimesGh from affected individuals, a batch of candidates who went through recruitment processes in October 2024 were issued appointment letters as far back as November 2024.

However, due to the 2024 general elections that year, their onboarding process was delayed.

These candidates say they were re-engaged in early June 2025 and given formal postings across the country with instructions to report to duty immediately.

According to the appointees, a letter dated 2nd June 2025 from the Lands Commission, and signed by the Head of Human Resource, Evans Mamphy, directed new staff to report to their respective regions no later than 9th June for duty assignment. No orientation was provided.

However, in a surprising development, a memo dated 12th June 2025, and signed by the Acting Executive Secretary of the Lands Commission, Prof. Anthony Owusu-Ansah, directed all divisional and regional heads to suspend the assumption of duty of the new entrants until further notice.

The affected individuals, some of whom had relocated and secured accommodation in their new regions of posting, say they are currently uncertain about their employment status.

“We were told our appointment was with immediate effect, and some of us moved at our own cost. Now we’ve been asked to hold on indefinitely, without any clear communication about what happens next,” one source said.

As of 4th July 2025, the affected appointees say they have not received any further updates from the Commission.

The Lands Commission is yet to provide a public explanation for the sudden suspension. It is also unclear whether the suspension is temporary or permanent.
