Parliament will begin extended sittings on Mondays and Saturdays starting July 7, 2025, to facilitate the passage of key legislative instruments and outstanding business before its adjournment sine die.

This was announced by the Majority Leader and Chairman of the Business Committee, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, when he presented the Business Statement for the seventh week, ending Saturday, July 12, 2025.
According to Hon. Ayariga, the extended sittings are necessary to allow certain Legislative Instruments (LIs) to mature and ensure the House meets critical deadlines. He noted that fifty-five Ministers of State and the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, are expected to appear before Parliament to respond to questions during the period.
The Business Committee also indicated that new Bills may be introduced, and those deemed urgent could be taken through all required stages in a single sitting, by Standing Order 160. Papers are also expected to be laid, with committee reports presented for consideration.
“Motions may be debated and their consequential Resolutions, if any, taken during the week. By Standing Order 216(2), and subject to Standing Order 67, the Committee submits to the House the order in which the business shall be taken,” Hon. Ayariga said.
During discussions on the Business Statement, the Minority Leader, Hon. Osahen Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, called on the Majority Leader to include a scheduled briefing by the Electoral Commission Chairperson, Madam Jean Mensa.
The Minority is seeking clarification on the planned rerun of parliamentary elections in 19 polling stations in the Ablekuma North Constituency.
