A 20-year-old man, Mohammed Bello, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison with hard labour after pleading guilty to robbery charges at the Ofaakor Circuit Court.

Bello, together with four accomplices who are currently on the run, reportedly carried out a robbery attack on drivers and passengers at Dabanyin near Gomoa Buduatta Junction along the Kasoa-Winneba road around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2025.

In a statement signed by DSP Victor Kofi Dosoo, Head of Public Affairs for the Central East Region, he stated that the gang forcibly took mobile phones, cash, and other valuables from their victims. However, a swift and intelligence-led police response led to the arrest of Bello as he attempted to flee the scene.

“Through a search conducted on the suspect, officers retrieved GHC3,740.00, multiple phones, a power bank, a wristwatch, and other items believed to have been stolen during the attack.”

One of the victims is said to have identified a pair of sandals found on Bello during investigations.

Following a thorough probe, Bello was arraigned on Tuesday, July 8, and pleaded guilty to the robbery charges. The court then handed down a 25-year custodial sentence with hard labour.

The police have launched a manhunt for the remaining suspects and have assured the public of their commitment to justice.

“The Central East Regional Police Command remains resolute in its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the public by bringing all accomplices of this crime to face the full rigours of the law,” the statement added.
