The daughter of 89-year-old Madam Martha Adjankua Nunoo, Mary Ann Nunoo, has refuted reports suggesting she abducted her ailing mother, describing the story aired by the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) as “false, misleading, and deeply distressing.”

Addressing a press conference in Accra, Mary Ann explained that her mother, who suffers from dementia, was moved to her residence in early October 2025 for safety and medical supervision. The decision, she said, was a collective one made by 12 family members, including her brother, based in the United States.
“My mother was not abducted. She was relocated to my home with the full knowledge and agreement of the family to ensure her comfort and proper medical care. The wider Nunoo family made this decision out of love, professional advice, and genuine concern for her well-being,” she stated.
Mary Ann accused the family nurse, Celestine Nomo, of fabricating the abduction story that led to the GTV report. According to her, the nurse was aware of the relocation and even saw her on the morning she came for her mother.
“It is shocking that the nurse, who was present that morning and saw me personally, could later claim that three men came to abduct my mum. That is baseless and dishonest. She has twisted facts and been intentionally untruthful just to gain cheap publicity.”
She clarified that the relocation was peaceful and carried out respectfully, with no threats or harm to anyone involved.
Expressing disappointment in GTV’s reportage, Mary Ann criticized the national broadcaster for airing her elderly mother’s image without consent, saying it was a violation of her dignity and privacy.
“It is equally distressing that GTV broadcast, without our consent, my mother’s image to the public. This violates her fundamental human rights, particularly given her vulnerable condition. An apology will be appropriate,” she noted
She assured the public that her mother is safe, healthy, and receiving adequate care, while urging the media and the public to respect their privacy.
“Our mother is in good health and under loving care. We appeal to GTV, the police, and the public to respect our privacy as we focus on her well-being and protection,” she added.
Meanwhile, Nii Kofi Tuadan III has also dismissed claims linking him to the alleged abduction. He described the GBC report as false and misleading, clarifying that he was present when the elderly woman was peacefully moved to her daughter’s home with police escort and family approval.
“The 89-year-old woman was willingly sent to her daughter’s residence. The relocation was done openly, respectfully, and even with police presence. We reported the move at the nearest police station, so claims of abduction by GBC are entirely untrue.”
