The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has asked former Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency, Eric Oduro Osae, to provide official proof validating his use of the academic title “Dr.”

In a letter dated October 8, 2025, and signed by GTEC’s Director-General, Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, the Commission requested that Mr. Osae submit documentary evidence of a terminal degree, such as a PhD or EdD, awarded by a recognised and accredited institution, either in Ghana or abroad.

The directive follows earlier engagements between Dr. Osae and officials of the Commission concerning his continued use of the title.

“For the avoidance of doubt, please be reminded that GTEC regards the unauthorized or inappropriate use of academic titles as a serious matter. The use of titles such as ‘Dr.’ without formal academic validation from an accredited institution is considered misleading and violates established academic protocols and standards.”

GTEC has directed Mr. Osae to provide the name of the awarding institution, a copy of the degree certificate, and an official transcript. If he fails to do so, he must cease using the title ‘Dr.’ and remove it from all professional and public records, including letterheads, websites, and institutional profiles.

The Commission has given him until October 17, 2025, to comply.

GTEC says the move forms part of its broader effort to enforce academic integrity and professional accountability, warning that the misuse of honorary or unverified titles undermines public trust in Ghana’s higher education system.
