His Eminence, the National Chief Imam, Shaikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, has congratulated Hon. Abdul Rauf Ibrahim Tanko on his reappointment as Chairman of the Ghana Hajj Board.

In a statement signed by his Personal Assistant, Dr. Mohammed Marzuq Abubakari Azindoo, the Chief Imam also commended President John Dramani Mahama for the decision, describing it as a recognition of “service, resilience, perseverance, and excellence” demonstrated by Hon. Tanko during his previous tenure.

Dr. Sharubutu recalled that Hon. Tanko’s leadership of the Hajj Board between 2013 and 2016 stands tall in the history of Hajj operations in Ghana, noting that his administration achieved remarkable success despite the few challenges encountered.

“Indeed, the performance of Chairman Tanko constitutes a candle of light in the darkness of Hajj management in Ghana,” the revered cleric stated.

The Chief Imam expressed optimism that Hon. Tanko’s reappointment would pave the way for the establishment of a permanent Hajj Board “of Muslims, by Muslims, and for Muslims,” working collaboratively with relevant state institutions to ensure the comfort of pilgrims and sanity in Hajj operations.

He also advised the newly reappointed chairman to be guided by the teachings of the Holy Qur’an, specifically Chapter 3, Verse 159, which emphasizes mercy, gentility, forgiveness, tolerance, consultation, and faith as core values of leadership.

His Eminence concluded with prayers for the success of Hajj 2026 and for all stakeholders involved, from the Ghanaian government to the Ghana Hajj Agents Association, to work in unity and service to the Muslim Ummah.
