The Auditor-General, Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu, has released an interim list of rejected and pending claims, commitments, and Bank Transfer Advices (BTAs) submitted by the Ministry of Finance for verification, a move aimed at promoting transparency and accountability in the management of public funds.

The Ministry of Finance had earlier forwarded to the Auditor-General all outstanding commitments, claims, and BTAs as of December 31, 2024, to be audited before any payments were made. These claims relate to works executed and services rendered under various government projects across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) nationwide.

According to the Auditor-General, the verification exercise was conducted between May and October 2025 in collaboration with international accounting firms PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and Ernst & Young (EY). The process involved extensive engagements with MDAs, contractors, and suppliers to confirm the authenticity and validity of the claims submitted.

The newly published list, he explained, covers all arrears and commitments that have either been rejected or remain pending further justification before any payment approval is granted.

Mr. Akuamoah Asiedu indicated that affected parties would have an opportunity to contest or justify their claims by submitting additional supporting documentation through the relevant MDAs to the Ghana Audit Service for final validation.

The verification window, he noted, will remain open until November 7, 2025, after which any arrears or commitments that remain rejected or unverified will be permanently removed from the government’s arrears and commitment records.

The publication forms part of the Auditor-General’s enhanced public accountability drive to ensure that all government payments are backed by verified and legitimate claims, protecting the public purse from fraudulent or unjustified expenditures.
