Ghana has signed a bilateral debt agreement with the Federal Republic of Germany, the sixth such deal under the country’s ongoing debt restructuring programme, as part of efforts to stabilise the economy and strengthen fiscal recovery.

The agreement, signed in Accra, marks another key step in Ghana’s negotiations with official creditors following months of talks aimed at restoring economic stability and debt sustainability.

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson described the deal as a major milestone in Ghana’s economic recovery journey, saying it reflects growing international confidence in the government’s reform agenda.

“This agreement is a significant milestone in Ghana’s economic recovery journey. It will help strengthen the foundations of fiscal stability and anchor long-term economic progress,” Dr. Forson said.

He expressed appreciation to the Government and people of Germany for their continued partnership and faith in Ghana’s future, adding that the cooperation between the two nations continues to play a vital role in Ghana’s economic turnaround efforts.

“We are deeply grateful to Germany for its support and confidence in Ghana’s economic direction. This agreement reflects the strong and enduring cooperation between our two countries,” he added.

German Ambassador to Ghana, Frederik Landshöft, lauded the progress Ghana has made in stabilising its economy despite global challenges and reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s development agenda.

“Germany commends Ghana for the progress made so far in stabilising the economy. We look forward to deepening our bilateral and economic cooperation for the mutual benefit of both nations,” the Ambassador stated.

The latest agreement strengthens Ghana’s ties with its development partners as the government continues implementing fiscal reforms aimed at achieving long-term macroeconomic stability and inclusive growth.
