The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has suspended its ongoing recruitment exercise in the Greater Accra Region following the tragic stampede at the El Wak Sports Stadium on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, which claimed six lives and left several others injured.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Armed Forces said the suspension is to allow the implementation of additional safety measures to ensure the exercise proceeds smoothly when resumed.
“A Board of Inquiry has been constituted to unravel the circumstances that led to the unfortunate incident,” the statement read.
GAF, however, clarified that the recruitment process in the remaining 15 regions across the country will continue as scheduled.
The statement expressed the Armed Forces’ deep regret over the incident and the inconvenience caused to the general public, particularly the affected applicants. It is assured that new dates for the resumption of the Greater Accra recruitment exercise will be communicated in due course.
The Ghana Armed Forces also reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining transparency, order, and the highest safety standards throughout the recruitment process.
