The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mubarak, has announced the postponement of the nationwide recruitment exercise for the Police, Prisons, and Immigration services, shifting the start date from Saturday, November 15, to Monday, November 17.

The decision, communicated on Friday, November 14, follows the tragic incident at Accra’s El Wak Sports Stadium during the military recruitment exercise, which left several applicants dead and others injured.
According to the Minister, the revised timetable for the various agencies will be published in national newspapers, on official social media platforms, and through the appropriate ministries and agencies.
“The advertisement indicated that application forms would be available on November 15, 2025. However, in light of the unfortunate incident that occurred on Wednesday during the Armed Forces recruitment process, the Ministry of the Interior, in consultation with Security Chiefs, has decided to postpone the start date of applications from November 15 to Monday, November 17, 2025, as a mark of respect to the bereaved families and those who were injured,” he explained.
He further outlined the channels for purchasing recruitment vouchers, noting that they will be available at GCB Bank branches nationwide and via a USSD dial code.
“The system we are deploying is a robust centralised E-Recruitment Portal, an initiative implemented to ensure harmonisation and standardisation of the conduct of recruitment across the various agencies under the Ministry of the Interior,” he added.
A total of 28 applicants were affected in the El Wak incident, with 12 in critical condition, five receiving treatments in the Intensive Care Unit, and six confirmed dead. A separate recruitment exercise in Kumasi also resulted in five injuries.
The Ministry assured the public that additional safety measures will be introduced as investigations into the tragedy continue.
