The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has approved new tariff adjustments for electricity and water, which take effect on January 1, 2026, as part of its multi-year tariff review covering the period 2026 to 2030.

Under the new structure, electricity tariffs will increase by 9.86 percent across all customer categories, while water tariffs are set to rise by 15.92 percent over the five-year control period.
According to the Commission, the upward adjustments are necessary to support the investment needs of utility providers, maintain industry competitiveness, and protect consumers through improved service delivery.
PURC explained that the multi-year review includes a quarterly adjustment mechanism to account for variables outside the control of service providers—such as exchange rate movements, inflation, fuel costs, and changes in the generation mix.
As part of efforts to improve electricity access in remote areas, the Commission also introduced mini-grid tariffs for island communities. These costs will be absorbed into the Volta River Authority’s revenue requirements.
The tariff decision, PURC stressed, followed extensive stakeholder consultations, public hearings, and a thorough assessment of proposals submitted by utility companies.
The Commission assured consumers that it will continue to monitor service providers to ensure operational efficiency, value for money, and full compliance with regulatory standards.
