The Electoral Commission (EC) has postponed all District Assembly and Unit Committee by-elections scheduled for Tuesday, November 11, 2025.
The announcement was contained in an official press release dated November 3, 2025, and signed by Mr. Fred Tetteh, Deputy Director of the EC’s Research, Monitoring and Evaluation Department. The Commission said the by-elections have been put on hold until further notice.
“The District Assembly and Unit Committee By-Elections have been put on hold until further notice. New dates will be announced in due course,” the release stated.
The EC did not provide reasons for the postponement but assured the public that further updates would be communicated once arrangements are finalised.
The by-elections were originally expected to fill vacancies created by the resignation or death of Assembly Members and Unit Committee Members, in accordance with the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), as amended by Act 940.
More than 1,500 polling stations across several regions were scheduled to participate in the exercise. Some of the regions and districts affected include Greater Accra, Ashanti, Volta, Central, Eastern, Bono, Ahafo, Western, and Western North.
Notable areas include:
- Greater Accra: Ablekuma Central, Weija-Gbawe, La-Nkwantanang, Adenta
- Central Region: Cape Coast, Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem, Mfantseman
- Western Region: Jomoro, Ellembelle, Nzema East, Sekondi-Takoradi
- Eastern Region: Asuogyaman, Yilo Krobo, Suhum, New Juaben
- Ashanti Region: Adansi South, Obuasi Municipal, Bosomtwe, Offinso North
- Volta Region: Keta, Ketu South, Ho, Afadjato South
The Commission has made the full list of vacant electoral areas and corresponding polling stations available at its district offices and online.
