Massive Job Boost: 27,000 Ghanaians to benefit from new garment factories

The government is set to support the private sector in establishing three large garment factories, a move expected to generate approximately 27,000 jobs and boost Ghana’s industrial growth, Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry Minister Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare has announced.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series in Accra on Wednesday, January 21, the Minister highlighted the garment sector’s strong potential for employment due to its labour-intensive nature and minimal training requirements for new workers.

“I can say for a fact that 2026 even looks better. 2026 looks better because the government is going to support the private sector to establish three big garment factories, and we seek to employ 27,000 people in the long run with these garment factories,” Minister Ofosu-Adjare said.

“A garment factory employs a lot of people. The beauty is the fact that you don’t have to learn for three or five months before you get a job. So this is good.” She added

The initiative is part of government efforts to create employment opportunities for Ghanaians while strengthening the country’s industrial base. Minister Ofosu-Adjare emphasized that continued support for private sector-led projects remains central to the government’s economic growth strategy.
