Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has announced that the residents and businesses in the eastern part of Accra are expected to face water shortages after a major burst on a 42-inch transmission pipeline on Monday, January 19, 2026.

The incident has caused significant interruptions to the water supply across several communities, including Tema Metropolis, Ashaiman, Gbetsele, Akatamanso, Klagon, Lashibi, Baatsonaa, Spintex, parts of East Legon, Nungua, Teshie, and surrounding areas.
GWL engineers were immediately mobilized to the site and have been working around the clock to repair the damaged pipeline. The utility explained that, due to the size of the transmission main, restoration requires careful handling to ensure safety, durability, and efficiency.
“Every effort is being made to complete the repair work as quickly as possible and restore the normal water supply. We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused and appreciate the patience and understanding of our cherished customers,” GWL stated.
The company has also assured essential service providers, such as schools and hospitals, that support is available during the disruption. Affected institutions can reach GWL via toll-free numbers, WhatsApp, or the company’s social media channels.
GWL has promised to provide further updates as the situation progresses, urging residents to monitor official channels for information on restoration timelines.
