Abronye in police custody

The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye, has been picked up by the police.

The reasons for his arrest remain unclear, though it comes days after he stirred controversy by formally requesting political asylum in eight countries, including Côte d’Ivoire, the United States, France, Italy, Canada, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Germany.

In his petition, Abronye alleged “consistent, escalating political persecution, threats to my life, and systemic abuse of state security powers by the current Government of Ghana” as the basis for seeking protection abroad.

Meanwhile, police on Sunday reportedly stormed the residence of former NPP Youth Organiser, Moses Abor, in connection with the matter, but did not find Abronye there.
