Akufo-Addo to lead African Union Election Observation Mission to Congo

The former President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has been appointed by the African Union (AU) to lead its Election Observation Mission to the Republic of the Congo ahead of the country’s upcoming presidential polls.

According to a statement from the Office of the former President, the mission will observe the presidential elections scheduled to take place in the Central African nation on March 15, 2026.

The AU Election Observation Mission is expected to include members drawn from various continental bodies and institutions, including the AU Permanent Representatives Committee, the Pan-African Parliament, the African Governance Platform, as well as election management bodies, independent election experts, civil society organizations, and representatives of women and youth groups.

“The African Union has appointed Ghana’s former President, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to lead its Election Observation Mission in the Republic of Congo next week,” the statement noted.

Nana Akufo-Addo is expected to depart Accra on Friday, March 13, and return on March 18, 2026, after overseeing the AU’s observation activities.

The mission forms part of the African Union’s efforts to promote credible, transparent and democratic electoral processes across the continent.
