A new survey by Global InfoAnalytics has projected victory for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Bernard Bediako, in the Akwatia by-election slated for Tuesday, September 2, 2025.

The survey, conducted between August 27 and 28 with a sample size of 2,050 voters across the constituency, puts Bediako ahead of his closest rival, Solomon K. Asumadu of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to the final poll results, “Bediako leads with 53%, while Asumadu trails with 47%, placing the NDC candidate in pole position ahead of election day.”
The by-election, triggered by the death of NPP MP Ernest Kumi on July 7, has attracted nationwide attention. Akwatia, a traditional swing constituency, has alternated between the NDC and NPP over the past two decades, making this race a key test of both parties’ strength ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The polls further highlighted that voter sentiment is being shaped not only by party loyalty but also by pressing issues such as unemployment, economic hardship, and access to social amenities.
Global InfoAnalytics noted that undecided voters remain a decisive factor, as their eventual choices could either consolidate Bediako’s lead or narrow the margin for Asumadu.
The by-election is expected to be closely watched across the country, with security agencies assuring heavy deployment to ensure a peaceful process following recent incidents of electoral violence.
