Ambulance trial: Richard Jakpa ask court to strike out the charges against him

Richard Jakpa, the third accused in the well-known Ambulance case, has suddenly changed his situation. His attorneys have filed a court application asking the court to either drop the allegations against him or to halt the proceedings.

In a sworn witness statement, Mr. Jakpa claims that Attorney-General Godfred Dame assured him of his innocence and promised his acquittal. Jakpa alleges that Dame admitted his inclusion in the prosecution was a strategic move to obscure the true intentions behind the trial.

Jakpa asserts that the real motive behind the case was political, driven by pressure from President Nana Akufo-Addo and former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to target the then-ranking Member of Parliament for Finance and current Minority Leader, Hon. Ato Forson.

Jakpa is requesting the court to allow him to testify on these interactions and to be cross-examined on the matter. The explosive allegations contained in his application could significantly impact the ongoing trial and raise questions about the integrity of the prosecution.
