Assemblies of God calls for honours for eight fallen heroes of helicopter crash

Assemblies of God, Ghana, has called on the nation to institute special honours and support schemes for the families of the eight national heroes who lost their lives in the August 6 helicopter crash.

The victims included Defence Minister Dr. Omane Boamah, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Dr. Murtala Mohammed, and six other senior officials and military personnel.

In a statement signed by General Secretary Rev. Dr. Ernest Birikorang, the church described the incident as heart-breaking, soul-wrenching, and earth-shaking, stressing the need for prayer, unity, and reflection on life’s deeper values.

“We propose support schemes and award packages for all the dependents of the eight gallant men, commensurate with the supreme sacrifice they have paid and the distinctive service they have rendered to the state,” the statement read.

Assemblies of God, Ghana, joined President John Dramani Mahama, the government, and the Ghana Armed Forces in consoling the bereaved families, urging them to find comfort in the scripture: “The Lord heals the broken-hearted and binds up their wounds” (Psalm 147:3).

The church expressed hope that the national unity sparked by the tragedy would endure beyond political, social, ethnic, and religious differences.
