Bawumia is running Ghana even in opposition

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Zebilla, Dr. Kingsley Krugu, has claimed that former Vice President and NPP flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, continues to influence Ghana’s governance despite no longer holding office.

Speaking on Channel One Newsroom on Thursday, January 8, Dr. Krugu highlighted the continuing benefits of policies initiated by Dr. Bawumia, particularly in the areas of digitalisation and institutional reforms.

He argued that the former Vice President’s ideas and initiatives continue to shape key sectors of the country, demonstrating both his enduring influence and popularity.

According to Dr. Krugu, Dr. Bawumia’s ongoing impact positions him as a strong contender for the NPP flagbearership ahead of the 2028 elections.

“Where we are in this country, he is running the government from the opposition. I am sure you saw those videos of people arriving at the airport and using their Ghana cards to pass and were saying, ‘thank God, thanks to Dr. Bawumia, it works’.

“I am sure you have heard the GRA Commissioner, who says that their revenue collection has improved due to digitalisation, thanks to Dr. Bawumia. I am sure you have heard that whatever is happening in GoldBod was his idea.

“This is a man who is running the government from opposition; his popularity has not gone down,” he stated.
