A massive crowd of supporters thronged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) headquarters in Accra as former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia officially submitted his nomination forms to contest for re-election as the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 general elections. The atmosphere was charged with chants of “Kukrudu,” as delegates and well-wishers cheered him on.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Bawumia stressed that his decision to seek re-election is not for personal gain but to safeguard the values of the party and serve the nation. “This election is an election not only for the flagbearer of our party but an election for the soul of this party. The choice we make on January 31st will determine whether or not this party will hold on to the values that make us great or become a new party focused on deepening the chasm between the rich and the poor,” he said.
The former Vice President also highlighted his achievements in government, citing key policies and reforms he spearheaded as evidence of his readiness to lead Ghana. “The implementation of these practical policy initiatives has resulted in many people saying that I have been the most effective Vice President in Ghana’s history,” he added, citing initiatives such as mobile money interoperability, the Ghana Card, the gold for oil program, Agenda 111, and Zipline drone medical delivery services.
Dr. Bawumia assured party delegates that under his leadership, the NPP would build on the progress already made and work tirelessly to secure victory in 2028.
