Ing. Gonza highlighted the significance of making railway transport attractive, citing its status as the most cost-effective means of transport globally. Drawing parallels with European cities, particularly London, he stressed the importance of utilizing railways for daily commuting to alleviate congestion in rapidly growing urban areas like Accra and Kumasi.
Amid Ghana’s population surge from 7 million in 1966 to over 30 million in 2024, Ing. Gonza urged leadership to consider railway development as a strategic measure for city decongestion and nationwide planning.
For the establishment of a sustainable railway industry, Ing. Gonza underscored the importance of adhering to best engineering practices to ensure train systems reliability, prevent breakdowns and accidents, and facilitate cost-effective maintenance. He emphasized the need for continuous technological updates to keep the railway systems more modern and easily maintainable, ultimately influencing affordable fare pricing for the public.
Blackstar Rail Ltd consultant advocated for the integration of the railway industry with educational institutions to foster research and cooperation. The collaboration must aim to keep students abreast of new railway technologies, showcasing Blackstar Rail Ltd proactive engagement with various educational institutions in Ghana.
In a forward-looking approach, Blackstar Rail Ltd encourages the youth to pursue roles in railway expertise. The goal is not only to contribute to Ghana’s development but also to promote railways as the safest and most economical mode of transportation, fostering progress across Africa—especially in the context of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area.
The consultant urged all stakeholders to unite in the modernization efforts of the railway industry, aligning with the broader goals of national and continental development.
