Children’s fund for helicopter crash victims hits GHC3.5m

The Children’s Support Fund set up to cater for children who lost their parents in the August 6 helicopter crash has so far received contributions totaling GHC3,576,600 and $20,000.

An update released on Friday, August 29, indicated that donations received between August 19 and 28 came from both institutions and individuals.

Major contributors include Ghana Airport Company Limited, ARB Apex Bank PLC, STL Foundation, Olam Agric, Fidelity Bank, ADB Bank, GLICO General Insurance, and the National Insurance Commission. Several private donors, among them Kennedy Hedoe, Peter Adongo, Mensah Michael, Appaul Wiredu Lateef, Samuel Hodalor, and Dauda Iddi, also made contributions.

Coordinated by Dr. Valerie Sawyerr, Senior Presidential Advisor on Governmental Affairs, the Fund is designed to provide long-term welfare support for the children affected by the tragedy. She assured that “donations continue to be received through dedicated Stanbic Bank Ghana accounts, with weekly updates provided to ensure transparency.”

The August 6 helicopter crash claimed the lives of Defence Minister Dr. Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, three other high-profile individuals, and three servicemen.
