Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC) has announced the deployment of innovative technologies during today’s District Level Elections (DLEs), offering a preview of systems intended for implementation in the 2024 elections. EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa, highlighted that the new verification system aims to enhance security and prevent electoral fraud.

With over 66,000 individuals vying for positions in District Assemblies nationwide, Jean Mensa urged voters to adhere to electoral regulations. She emphasized the significance of the biometric technology in curbing double voting, stating, “The biometric technology makes it difficult for a person who has been verified and cast their vote to come a second time. Because once you have been verified, it goes into the system, and you cannot come back a second time.”
Mensa encouraged voters to familiarize themselves with the new system during these elections, emphasizing that the technology, recognizing facial features and fingerprints, ensures a secure and tamper-proof voting process. She cautioned against attempting to vote multiple times, as it would constitute an electoral offense.
The introduction of advanced technology in the District Level Elections signals the EC’s commitment to enhancing the integrity of the electoral process and deterring fraudulent activities. As the nation experiences this technological upgrade, it sets the stage for a more secure and transparent electoral landscape in the upcoming 2024 elections.
