ECG Issues Three-Day Ultimatum to Ridge Hospital Over GHc42 Million Debt

The National Taskforce of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has given a three-day ultimatum to Ridge Hospital, demanding the settlement of a GHc42 million debt accumulated over a year’s power consumption, emphasizing that failure to comply will lead to consequences for the hospital.

During a visit to Ridge Hospital, ECG officials engaged with the hospital’s core management, who clarified that they are not responsible for bill payments. Instead, they indicated that the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Health should handle such financial obligations.

This warning from ECG comes as part of its efforts to recover debts from various institutions across the country. A total of 91 health facilities, including prominent hospitals like Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and 37 Military Hospital, are among those facing potential disconnection due to outstanding debts totaling GH¢261 million.

Despite the hospital officials’ concerns about potential cost transfers to consumers, ECG remains firm in its stance, urging institutions to take necessary steps to clear their debts to avoid power outages. This action is part of ECG’s broader strategy to enhance its operational capacity and ensure financial sustainability.
