The Ministry of Finance faces disconnection from the national grid by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) due to an outstanding debt of GHc1 million. Over the past ten months, the ministry has accumulated this hefty sum in unpaid electricity bills, amounting to GHc1,025,918.00. Furthermore, the ministry’s failure to allocate funds to settle debts owed by various municipal and district assemblies has exacerbated the situation.

Sources within ECG indicate that the decision to disconnect the Ministry of Finance aims to address the issue at its core and signal the seriousness of the matter to authorities. A team from ECG is poised to engage with the Minister for Finance, Dr. Amin Adam, in hopes of resolving this.
Meanwhile, ECG’s pursuit of outstanding debts extends to Ghana’s Parliament, which faces a GHc23 million debt to the power distributor. The ECG national task force has issued a warning, stating their intention to disconnect Parliament if the debt remains unsettled.
